Clearing out some games

Well if there is one thing that the last few days have proven to me is that I will certainly not have the time for painting and gaming that I once did.

So in order to make sure that I can make the most of the time I have and focus it in a productive fashion I am going to begin the process of weeding out some games from my collection and instead of doing my usual scatter-gun approach to gaming I’ll try to focus on just a few games… perhaps even many in a single scale.

So I currently have figures/armies for the following:

Weird WWII
Warmachine
Hordes
Epic
Aeronautica Imperialis
Lord of the Rings
BattleTech
Warmaster
Warmaster Ancients
AT-43

Absolutely on the cutting block are the Warmaster and Warmaster Ancients figs. Sorry Brian. The Lord of the Rings minis are currently being traded and so will hopefully soon be gone. That leaves:

Weird WWII
Warmachine
Hordes
Epic
Aeronautica Imperialis
BattleTech
AT-43

Now as tough as this is I am probably going to be dropping my Warmachine figs and may even drop my Hordes figs. Doing so would leave me with

Weird WWII
Epic
Aeronautica Imperialis
BattleTech
AT-43

I think this is manageable. One prepainted game, three 6mm scale games and a 28mm skirmish game.

You may note that there is no mention of Confrontation. As nice as it may be to get into a prepainted fantasy game I can’t really justify it in terms of time. So all of my Confrontation metal figs are going to go on the trading block.

Okay, so maybe there may be some Confrontation :-)

I’ll be updating my Trade List with a few new items and then pondering the rest of the “cuts” as the week goes on.

  1. I’m not really surprised to see the Warmaster and Ancients figs go. For them, please do put them on offer either to the yahoo group in town here, or else I think Brett had expressed some interest in Ancients, maybe he’d be into your Romans?

I’m quite surprised to see Hordes on the block though, since you always talked about how much you really enjoyed the game, and you’ve got a good source on the models.

But I do think that 6mm games are the way to go in terms of reducing painting time. I can’t believe how much more quickly I can paint a 6mm army!

  2. Hordes will be the last thing to go. I’m hoping to be able to do something with them but I’m trying to be brutally honest about the situation.

I’ll post about the Warmaster figs on the group

  3. Awe no Warmachine or Hordes anymore? I took a month break from play Warmachine and have started play again and having more fun that ever. I think the league killed it for a while but now the people had time off playing we are actually getting fun games in. I know one thing for sure this year I won’t be running any leagues.

  4. Awe no Warmachine or Hordes anymore?

We had twins recently so I really have nothing like the time I had in the past and I want to be able to focus on the games I do play to maximise what time I have left

  5. Congrats on the twins. I have a two year old. Being a miniatures addict I too had to consolidate my collection. Warmachine/Hordes has a special place for me though as it is my first leap into real miniatures gaming.

Unfortunately not to many people in my local playing group like to explore different games. I know of only one person that is interested in AE-WWII and he’s on a different island.

I hope there’s a warmer reception for Pulp City when it comes out. 2008 will be the year of small game manufacturers and skirmish games with all the cool stuff coming out.

  6. Congrats on the twins.

    Thanks

Thankfully I have a pile of Weird War minis painted already as well as a ton of Battletech stuff. My Confrontation figs, if I pursue the game, will mostly be dipped.

  7. I’m anxiously waiting for the AE-WWII rulebook to be shipped out. I love weird war and I think AE-WWII will be the one for me. I actually prefer Tannhauser more but it seems too much like a board game to me. One day I will make a rules mode to have played free-form like a regular miniatures game.
